Plattsburgh Animal Hospital is a busy well-established small animal veterinary practice located 75 miles south of Montreal, QC, 26 miles west of Burlington, VT, 45 miles northeast of Lake Placid, NY, home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics and 135 miles north of Albany, NY. The city of Plattsburgh is a safe community located on beautiful Lake Champlain. To the west of Plattsburgh sits 6.1 million acres of land called the Adirondack Park which contains the famous Adirondack Mountains. Plattsburgh Animal Hospital is part of a network of 2 privately owned hospitals, including Adirondack Veterinary Hospital located in Westport, NY. Combined the two location have 10 veterinarians. Both the Plattsburgh Animal Hospital location and the Adirondack Veterinary Hospital have been in existence for over 30 years and have become very popular veterinary practices as they continue to look for ways to better serve owners and their pets. The Plattsburgh Animal Hospital location currently consists of 7 veterinarians including a modern state of the art 7000 square foot working environment. Services offered include: being open 7 days a week for pet owner’s convenience, a full in house IDEXX laboratory, after hour’s emergency service, digital x-ray and ultra sound as well as medical, surgical and dental care.
Position is for a compassionate enthusiastic Full-time Licensed Veterinary Technician with strong people skills for our Plattsburgh Animal Hospital location. Shifts are scheduled as four 10 hour days with three days off per week including rotating weekends. Hospital is a modern facility equipped with a full in-house lab, digital radiography, Computed Tomography (CT) and ultra sound. Facility is open 7 days a week as a service to the community.
Properly maintain and operate all diagnostic equipment
Maintain a clean, organized working environment in the exam and diagnostic areas by cleaning tables, mopping and disinfecting area and equipment.
Ability to properly handle and restrain patients with respiratory or cardiac compromise
Properly prep and scrub patients for sterile diagnostic procedures • Monitor patient parameters and notify doctor of potential concerns
Take proactive role in life-saving techniques including CPR, as necessary
Properly record patient vitals and trends on anesthesia flow sheet • Perform patient blood work including hematology
Proper handling of diagnostic specimens during procedure and facilitating the proper care and transfer to laboratory including accurate request forms and documentation
Ensure that proper procedures and documentation are followed during deceased patient aftercare • Client communications according to hospital policy
Medication administration for in house patients and refill processing for Internal Medicine patients • Outstanding nurse care
Ability to place catheters and draw blood from patients with compromised veins (peripheral or jugular).
Performs other duties assigned
