The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine invites nominations and applications for the position of Chair, Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS). The three primary missions of the Department are to benefit society through professional and graduate veterinary medical education, protect animal and human health, and advance medical knowledge through research and scholarship. In addition to VCS, the college’s academic environment includes the departments of Veterinary Preventive Medicine and Veterinary Biosciences and is part of the most comprehensive single-campus health sciences center in the United States, consisting of the Colleges of Medicine and Allied Medical Professions, Dentistry, Nursing, Optometry, Pharmacy, and Public Health, and a National Institutes of Health-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. Cross-college relationships are a foundation for the college’s Be the ModelTM strategic plan. A Veterinary Health System caseload of approximately 78,000 per year, supporting a strong clinical experience for 4th year veterinary students and high-quality clinical internship and residency programs covering the majority of specialties
Galbreath Equine Center and an imaging center that includes digital radiography, ultrasound, helical CT, nuclear medicine, and a 3T on-site MRI Newly renovated small animal specialty hospital, a new stand-alone outpatient clinic designed to immerse students in a full spectrum of veterinary care, and a state-of-the art clinical skills laboratory
A major curricular redesign in the professional degree curriculum to better prepare graduates to be career-ready veterinarians that is scheduled for autumn 2022 implementation
A research environment supported by the Blue Buffalo Veterinary Clinical Trials Office; college signature programs in comparative and translational oncology, infectious disease, and neuromusculoskeletal science; strong connections to university-wide research programs that include the Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Infectious Diseases Institute, and the Center for Clinical and Translational Science
The preferred candidate will have the following credentials and experiences:
DVM or equivalent degree, Diplomate of an AVMA recognized specialty board
Demonstrated achievement in scholarship and/or teaching, with qualifications consistent with the faculty academic rank of professor
Administrative experience, outstanding communication skills, and leadership qualities that facilitate faculty and resource development
