Mermaid Vet Hospital is looking for full-time and part-time veterinarians to join our rapidly growing, full-service practice, 5 minutes from the beach. We are a collection of less-than-perfect veterinarians and technicians striving towards perfecting care of our patients and contributions to our clients, and community. If you laughed out loud at the job title, there’s a good chance you’ll fit right in.
How you do anything is how you do everything, so we focus on providing not only the highest quality veterinary care for our canine and feline patients but also cultivating a supportive and energizing clinic culture.
We believe in performing collaborative medicine and maintaining professionality, but that doing so doesn’t mean we can’t joke, laugh at ourselves or with clients, and try to maintain our sanity. Apart from that, an avid love of nerd culture, pop-punk music, and gallows humor wouldn’t hurt…
We currently focus on wellness/preventative medicine, urgent care, dental caseloads and are in the process of building out a low-cost spay/neuter branch, however, we would welcome the development or addition of other services if the candidate presently has, or is interested in pursuing additional training.
Our Values:At Mermaid, we adhere to a defined set of core values and have a vision for veterinary medicine with a spectrum of care and where doctors and techs no longer suffer from burnout.
Communication - This is everything we do. The most knowledgeable clinician is useless if they can’t explain “what” to their peers, “why” to their clients, “how” to their techs and record it all for future reference.
Accountability - We do our best to shield our staff, to include our veterinarians, from all of the pressures outside our four walls. To do that successfully, every staff member needs to be accountable for their patients, themselves, and their responsibilities.
Respect - Should be self-explanatory. If you think you’re better than your technicians, clients, or us… it probably won’t be a good fit.
Education - We’re all less than perfect. We believe admitting that is important, because it allows us to seek to grow and improve both our clinical and soft skills continuously
Finally, we believe in a “work-life balance”... We also believe in life on other planets.
We won’t insult your intelligence and tell you we’ve found either, but we make our best effort to approximate as closely as we can, for ourselves, and for our staff.
Our Clinic: It’s not the newest or most luxurious building in the state (or even the county), but it’s home and it gets the job done. We’ve got most of what you’ll need and not much you don’t. We’ve never personally paid attention to the advertisements of how many “shiny new toys” a clinic has when job-hunting, so we won’t try to “wow” you with a list of blood machines and x-ray brands, but if there is something important to you and you will use, we can all but guarantee it will find a place in our clinic.
Our negotiable offering includes
Structured mentor support for new graduates
Salary base commensurate with experience with ProSal
Contribution towards health insurance
Optional 3-day weekends
3 weeks Paid Time Off
Continuing Education Allowance
Up to $2000 in relocation reimbursement
100% Liability Insurance and Florida state licensing
But seriously, you are the veterinarian, you have the power position in any employment negotiation, and anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is delusional or lying.
If you’re a rockstar (or budding rockstar) we want you to find your home with us. We’ll make every effort possible to create an appealing compensation package, whether that’s more time off, furthering your education and training or just cold hard cash. We can’t promise everything, but we will be up front and honest as quickly as possible if there’s something we just aren’t able to make happen.
Vero Beach: From the tourism board: “An elegant city located along Florida's Atlantic Coast, is a haven for golf, water sports and fishing.
Peaceful beaches, museums, nature tours and a range of hotels make Vero Beach a terrific vacation destination and an important part of the region known as the Treasure Coast.”
From Ourselves: Vero is a great little town with plenty to keep you occupied between local breweries (2 within 2 miles of the clinic), outdoor activities (kayaking, hiking, beaches, volleyball, drinking beer outside), and arts. It is limited in terms of nightlife and has an unofficial tagline of “For the newlywed and nearly dead”. However, an active social life is definitely possible. The town is filled with studly flight students and beach bunnies and Orlando is only 90 minutes away.
Apply now and join us in building the future of veterinary medicine.
Pulse (preferably). Actually, if you can go full Weekend at Bernie's... we may still be game.
Mermaid Vet Hospital is a small animal practice located in Vero Beach, Florida. Started in 2020 by husband and wife veterinarians, they sought to bring spectrum of care medicine to the Atlantic Coast, with a focus on client education.
