Job Summary:
The Department of Animal Biotechnology & Conservation invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Animal Biotechnology & Conservation. The preferred start date for this full-time, nine-month (annually renewable), non-tenure track teaching appointment is January 2025.
The department offers bachelor’s degrees in Small Animal Science, Conservation and Wildlife Management and Zoo Science. This position entails an in person teaching load for a full-time faculty member. The ideal candidate is prepared to develop and teach introductory and advanced undergraduate courses in Laboratory Animal Management (lecture and laboratory). The ideal candidate is prepared to teach principles of good laboratory practices, laboratory animal husbandry, biotechnology techniques and nutrition.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Recruits , interviews, hires, and trains and supervises new student lab assistants
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and teach courses (combination of laboratory and lectures) in laboratory animal management, husbandry, animal nutrition and good laboratory practices
Provide experiential learning opportunities via laboratory exercises
Post and maintain office hours
Follow IACUC AUAF guidelines and reporting requirements
Advise students individually and participate in recruitment and outcomes assessment activities
Serve on faculty committees as assigned or elected
Participate in professional development activities to remain current in the field
Attend regularly scheduled faculty and department meetings
Performs other job-related duties in area of responsibility as assigned
Education and Experience:
DVM or VMD or PhD in related field (Comparative Medicine, Laboratory Animal Management) preferred. Candidates with a master’s degree in laboratory animal management (MLAS) or related field and related work experience are also encouraged to apply.
Laboratory Animal experience is Husbandry experience with rodents required.
Teaching experience at the undergraduate level or in industry technologist training programs is preferred.

Knowledge of husbandry specifically rodents, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and other small companion and laboratory species required.
