Conchester Animal Hospital is a full-service animal hospital and welcomes pet patients in need of routine medical, surgical, and dental care. Our doctors have years of experience treating serious conditions and offering regular pet wellness care.
Conchester Animal Hospital was first constructed in 1960 deriving its name from the adjacent Conchester Highway. Dr, Mead Shaffer and Dr,. Donald Skinner conceived the idea while they were in the same class in veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Shaffer's father was a stone mason by trade and with some additional help they literally built the original part of the hospital. Dr. Shaffer and Skinner originally lived at the hospital during its early years.
Since then a large kennel was added to house the ever growing needs of hospitalized pets. Shortly afterward a new large waiting room was constructed, enough to accommodate the clients that used to line up outside to get into the hospital. The church pews that serve as seating were acquired by Dr. Shaffer and are still in use today. Over the years, additional veterinarians and staff were hired to handle the expanding practice. New equipment was added over the years to keep pace with the ever growing sophistication of veterinary medicine. Each year we find new ways to improve patient care and improve our diagnostic abilities!
